When I was 8-years-old, I designed and built an 18 hole miniature golf course, which took up the majority of my backyard. I spent months making it, and I was sure to include plenty of obstacles, tunnels, and water gaps. I remember my grandfather, who loved golf, came to visit me one summer. We played the course for hours. I still remember the smile on his face. He had so much fun with my 8-year-old creation. It was then I realized hard work, creativity, and design could bring a smile to someone’s face.

Maybe I feed off people's energy, but making people smile is my main goal in life. To me, design rules the world. From our stop signs and street lights to our political system, anything put in place to solve problems was designed. Design helps us navigate, think, react, and believe. It changes lives, creates culture, and most of all, when it's done well, makes people smile. It's what I love and will always love to do.
